AP editor: Michele Bachmann is such a liar, we had to impose a limit on fact checking her

iheartchaos:

If it seems like the media is often rough on Michele Bachmann, they’re actually fairly lenient, perhaps a bit too much. According to an editor at the Associated Press, the AP had to impose an upper limit on fact checking her, because almost everything that comes out of her mouth is a fabrication of some sort. They felt they had to print something, so they had to let some of the crazy slip through.

I enjoyed this.  Cool stories.

I grew up on metal and hardcore.  I got into DJing in my late twenties through hip-hop.  I’m just now beginning to learn about house, and dance music culture.  It’s an interesting scene with a rich history that I have a great deal of respect for.

Always interesting to hear about the real heyday of an art form.

There’s been a lot of noise over the past few weeks, from various people and places, about the quality of the current electronic dance music experience.

On June 23 – enjoying the afterburn of a Rolling Stone cover story in which he called out everyone from Skrillex to David Guetta for…

Rob Delaney: I love Levon Helm and America

Great read.  If you’re not following Rob Delaney on twitter, you’re laughing like 5 times less than me a day.  And I pretty much hate twitter comedy for the most part.  This dude has it mastered.  He also writes intelligent, thought provoking stuff like this.  Big fan!  I’m gonna go listen to The Band now.

robdelaney:

Levon Helm, drummer and singer of The Band, passed away from throat cancer last week. The outpouring of love directed his way over the last week, from every corner of the world, was remarkable. His family did an interesting thing too; they told the world before he died that he was in his final…

Luck and Success: Michael Lewis Princeton Speech

"People really don’t like to hear success explained away as luck — especially successful people. As they age, and succeed, people feel their success was somehow inevitable. They don’t want to acknowledge the role played by accident in their lives. There is a reason for this: the world does not want to acknowledge it either…don’t be deceived by life’s outcomes. Life’s outcomes, while not entirely random, have a huge amount of luck baked into them. Above all, recognize that if you have had success, you have also had luck — and with luck comes obligation. You owe a debt, and not just to your Gods. You owe a debt to the unlucky."  -Michael Lewis
